How to Order a Custom Mic Cover in the UK (Step-by-Step)
Ordering a custom mic cover is genuinely simple once you know the four things that matter. Here is the exact process, including how to prep your logo file and what mic models we can fit.
Ordering a custom mic cover is one of the simpler things you'll do this week. Four pieces of information get you a printed cover at your door in three working days. Here's the exact process, the gotchas, and what makes the difference between a good cover and a bad one.
Step 1: Identify your microphone
Sounds obvious, but the most common reason people get badly-fitting covers is buying a generic "60mm foam cover" without knowing what their actual mic head dimensions are.
If you have one of these mics, we have a made-to-fit cover already designed for it:
- Shure SM7B (standard or A7WS replacement)
- Shure SM58 / Beta 58
- Rode PodMic / PodMic USB
- Rode NT1 / NT1-A
- Electro-Voice RE20
- Heil PR40
- Audio-Technica AT2020 / AT2035
- Shure MV7 / MV7+
- Blue Yeti / Yeti X
If your mic isn't in that list, measure the capsule head diameter and the height you want the foam to extend, and send those numbers when you order — we'll make a custom-sized blank.
Step 2: Prepare your artwork
We accept:
- Vector files: AI, EPS, SVG, PDF (these print sharpest)
- High-resolution raster: PNG with transparent background at 300dpi, minimum 1500×1500px
- Logos with text: please convert all text to outlines/curves before sending, or send the font file with it
We do NOT accept:
- Screenshots of your logo
- Logos pulled from your Instagram bio
- "Just print my channel name in any font"
If you only have a low-res logo and no original file, we'll redraw it for £15 as part of the order. Most people who think they don't have a good logo file actually do — check whoever designed it for you, or your Squarespace/Wix asset library.
Step 3: Choose your print style
Two main options:
- Logo on a single colour background (most common): your logo prints across the cover, surrounded by a chosen brand colour. Looks clean on camera.
- Full-wrap design: a full-colour artwork covers the whole foam. Use this only if you have a designer — amateur full-wraps look busy.
Pricing's the same either way — we charge for the cover, not the complexity. Custom artwork is included.
Step 4: Place the order
On our site, you pick the mic-specific cover product, upload your logo file in the customiser, and we send a digital proof within one working day. You either approve, or request a tweak (one tweak is free).
Once approved:
- Production: 1-2 days
- Royal Mail Tracked 48 within UK: 1-2 days
- Total turnaround: 3-4 working days from approved proof
If you need it for a specific date (event, recording session), tell us — we have rush slots most weeks.
What it costs
For a standard mic-fit foam cover with custom logo: £20-30 inc. VAT. Bulk pricing kicks in at 5+ covers (good for multi-host shows or sponsor giveaways).
Shipping inside the UK: £3.95 Tracked 48, or free over £30.
What it doesn't cost
- Setup fees (zero)
- Artwork fees (zero, unless you need a redraw)
- Minimum order (you can order one cover)
- Reorder fees (we keep your artwork on file forever)
Common gotchas
- Sending a JPG with a white background instead of a transparent PNG. The white box prints around your logo. We'll spot this and ask, but check before sending.
- Forgetting to specify the mic model. If your mic isn't in our standard list, we need head diameter + height in mm.
- Approving the proof too fast. Look at it on a phone screen and on a desktop monitor before you say yes. Mistakes after print are reprintable but it adds days.
- Not telling us about urgency. If you've got a recording on Friday, tell us Monday — we can prioritise. Don't assume normal turnaround.
Where this fits if you're new
If you're starting a podcast, the order of upgrades that gives the most camera-presence-per-pound is:
- Lighting (£40 for a soft panel)
- Custom mic cover (£25)
- Background treatment (£60-150)
- Better camera (£200+)
The cover sits at #2 because the mic is on-screen 80% of the runtime. A blank grey foam quietly drags the perceived professionalism of your channel down for every minute of every episode.
